Opening speaker Paolo BRONZI

Biologist, he has worked for over 45 years in aquaculture research, particularly in the physiology of fish and in breeding technologies, both in marine and freshwater environments, most of them at ENEL (National Electricity Board of Italy, Research Department), where he acquired a long experience in beneficial use of heated waters both in marine and freshwater aquaculture. In the last 30 years he has followed in particular the scientific and technical aspects of Adriatic sturgeon (Acipenser naccarii) rehabilitation in Italy, sturgeon farming and protection globally, as well as marketing and statistics on global sturgeon and caviar productions.

Member of the SSG (Sturgeon Specialist Group, 1994) of IUCN; co-founder of the “WSCS” (World Sturgeon Conservation Society, 2003), Board member (2003-2011), vice President (2012-2019), president (2019-2022). Chief Scientist for the census of Italian aquaculture for the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (2008-2014). He has published over 100 scientific papers, book chapters and edited books.
